The History
Döner kebabista
Originating in Turkey, the dish takes its name from the Turkish word “dönmek”, which means “to turn” and refers to the meat that is turned on a skewer. In its original form, it was served on a plate of lamb. Döner kebab is part of the heritage of Ottoman cuisine and was developed by Hacı İskender Efendi in Bursa in the 19th century. Döner is not only a dish, but also a symbol of hospitality and sharing in Turkish culture.
